The netting I bought for my trellises is crap…half way through the season and it’s disintegrating! Lesson learned for next season.

Garden Journal (Day 98) – Pale, Yellowish Cucumber Leaves
Slicing cucumber plants in the container are starting to turn a pale, yellowish color, more in the lower leaves. Too much watering or nitrogen deficiency.

Garden Journal (Day 94) – Oh Snap!
The nylon netting on my pickling cucumbers started to snap today, so I had to do some emergency repairs. Looks like I’ll need something stronger for next season.

Garden Journal (Day 88) – Things are Progressing
The garden is progressing nicely. I’m seeing vegetable growth on all plants. I’ll be picking green beans today along with several banana peppers!

Garden Journal (Day 78) – Black Swallowtail Caterpillars!
I found about 15 Black Swallowtail Caterpillars in the garden. Luckily, they were still small in size, so not too much damage was done. Other than that, the garden is looking good!

Garden Journal (Day 67) – Noticing a Trend
Day 67, a trend is forming…my root vegetables don’t seem to be producing anything but a bunch of leaves…argh!!

Garden Journal (Day 59) – Critter Control
I found cabbage worms on my cauliflower and kohlrobi plants, so I need to keep an eye out for more. A square of radishes and beets don’t seem to be growing (just roots), so I pulled them and planted new seeds for both along with some red, white, and yellow onions (in place of a square of green onions.)

Garden Journal (Day 49) – Watermelon Radishes a Loss (again)
The watermelon radishes aren’t growing, so I pulled them…found slugs on the lettuce today as well, so added some sand around the plants to see if it helps.

Garden Journal (Day 44) – Houston, we have a problem
One of the squash plants wilted and died within a day or two. On closer inspection, the larvae of either a Cucumber Beetle or Squash Vine Borer was behind it. I’m hoping there aren’t more!
